The average number of defects that have occurred relative to the sampling population.
Equation:
DPU = Total Number of Defects / Sampling Population
Example:
A sample population consists of 1000 units. Of those 1000 units, there were 650 defects.
DPU = 650 / 1000 = .65 defects per unit
