This professional could also serve as a project champion/sponsor or a business leader who needs an introduction to Six Sigma.
As a Yellow Belt you will participate in process management activities. Yellow Belts understand the principles of Lean Six Sigma and are capable of characterizing processes, solving problems associated with their work responsibilities and implementing and maintaining the gains from improvements. They apply Lean Six Sigma concepts to their work assignments. They may also participate on Green and Black Belt projects.
Leads less complex improvement projects typically part-time or serves as a team member on more complex projects led by Black Belts.
About 2 projects per year
The Certified Lean Six Sigma Green Belt is a professional who is well versed in the core to advanced elements of the Lean Six Sigma Methodology. One who leads improvement projects and / or serves as a team member as a part of more complex improvement projects lead by a Certified Black Belt, typically in a part-time role.
As a Green Belt, you will be capable of solving problems within your local span of control. Green Belts remain in their current positions applying Lean Six Sigma to their job environment. Green Belts usually address less complex problems than Black Belts and perform at least two projects per year. They may also be part of a Black Belt’s team, helping to complete the Black Belt’s project.
Leads relatively complex improvement projects, typically in a full-time role.
About 4 to 6 projects per year
The Certified Lean Six Sigma Black Belt is a professional who is well versed in the Lean Six Sigma Methodology. One who leads improvement projects, typically in a full-time role. A Lean Six Sigma Black Belt possesses a thorough understanding of all aspects within the phases of D-M-A-I-C. They understand how to perform and interpret Six Sigma tools and how to use standard principles of Lean.
As a Black Belt, you will work as a project team leader who works full time to solve problems under the direction of a Champion. Black Belts work on relatively complex projects requiring significant focus to resolve. Most Black Belts conduct an average of 4 to 6 projects a year – projects usually having a high financial return for the company.

(IASSC) Accredited Training Organization (ATO).
The ATO standards define criteria related to quality, instruction, competency, and training methods in Lean Six Sigma.
This structure of problem solving forces the users to focus on what the root cause of a problem is while staying within the bounds of the project. The following is a description of the objectives in each phase of DMAIC:
Each has highly defined steps to assure a level of discipline in seeking a solution to any variation or defect present in a process.
DEFINE PHASE:
The purpose of this step is to define and describe process components and boundaries; identify owners, customers, and other stakeholders; define and plan project scope and metrics, and define team dynamics and tools.
Establish the Project Charter
Define the scope of the project including the objectives, timeline and budget.
Outline the high level process under consideration in the project scope.
Identify the project stakeholders
Select the project team members
Get the go ahead from the project sponsor.
Train the members of the project team in Lean Six Sigma in preparation for the start of the project.
MEASURE PHASE:
This step involves identifying and measuring the gap between current performance and the required performance. The measurement process is assessed, as well, to determine how accurate and precise it is.
Gain a detailed understanding of the process, the process inputs, and results.
Decide on a measurement strategy to measure the Key Performance Indicators (KPI) of the process.
Capture the current state of the process and quantify the outputs. Compare these outputs to the known requirements of the customer.
Evaluate the measurement system and the process which captures the data. This ensures that the data collected is valid and not influenced by an inaccurate or biased measurement system.
ANALYZE PHASE:
This is when complex analysis tools, for example, the fishbone diagram and the Pareto chart, are used to determine the root causes of the errors. The causes are listed and prioritized.
Analyze the value stream or process to identify ways to meet the standards of the customer (given that the current state of the process was failing to meet customer standards).
Find and analyze any sources of variation in the process. These variations can contribute to poor quality of the process outputs.
Determine which inputs to the process have the most significant effect on the output.
Identify a benchmark of a similar product or service to compare results to.

Design and implement a solution to the problems found in the previous phases (Measure and Analyze).
IMPROVE PHASE:
After identifying and analyzing the root problems, they are either improved or eliminated. Solutions are identified. If the solutions are obvious, they are implemented right away, otherwise, a detailed implementation plan is designed.
CONTROL PHASE:
After implementing the solution, the goal is to sustain it. Usually, a control plan is documented.
Verify that the changes put in place through the Six Sigma project meet the objectives of the project.
Develop a plan to control the process with the new changes.
Implement the control plan.
Document any lessons learned from the current project so that they can be referenced in future Six Sigma projects.

The Exam contains approximately 20 multiple-choice and true/false questions from each major section . There are no prerequisites required in order to sit for the IASSC Certified Lean Six Sigma Green Belt Exam.
The IASSC Certified Lean Six Sigma Yellow Belt Exam™ is a 60 question, closed book, proctored exam with a 2 hour allotted time. Candidates must sit for the IASSC Certified Lean Six Sigma Black Belt Exam and achieve a minimum score of 70%. There are no prerequisites required in order to sit for the IASSC Certified Lean Six Sigma Yellow Belt Exam.

Q. How quickly is it possible to complete the Black Belt certification?
A. Although the training is self-paced, I have seen students complete in as fast as 4 weeks. It really depends on what works best for you.
