The cycle time of a process measures the time from process start to process completion. This includes any wait time that may in the process. See the following simple example of a series of processes:

Each step in the process is a process itself. Step 1 has a cycle time of 20 minutes, step 2 a cycle time of 10 minutes and so on. It is important to clearly define what cycle time means with the customer so all parties are on the same page when referring to cycle time in discussions of the process.
